Wisdom from Wayne: “100% Of The Shots You DON’T Take DON’T Go In.”

So many of the risks we take, we often don’t even think of as risks:  driving, going down the stairs without holding onto the railing (w/two rambunctious dogs a foot), and even getting out of bed, as one of my Beautiful Blogging Babes pointed out earlier, can be a risk.

But those don’t make for very exciting copy as the main risk I’ll be taking today.  So, as I ponder what to write about, I ask myself what would be more exciting, get my adrenaline up?  What have I been procrastinating on that I could finally do today?  Ugh.

Well, there is one woman, on my list of people that I really want to interview for my book, whom I adore and whose work I adore, for whom I have just been given a home phone numberDo I dare call? She doesn’t know me from Adam!  And from what I hear, she’s somewhat of a recluse, so that makes it even scarier for me – what if she tells me to go to hell or hangs up on me or something worse, something so bad that I can’t even think of it yet?

The fact that I even have these questions gives me my answer.  I do dare call. I know that I will be polite and kind and brave.  And after that, I don’t know what will happen.  But I do know what will happen if I don’t call, and that is really the thought that is hardest to bear.

So wish me luck, and I’ll let you know what happens.

By the way, on what have you been procrastinating?  What’s the worst that can happen if you do it?  What will happen if you don’t, and can you live with that?

PS  The quote in the title comes from the great and wise philosopher, Wayne Gretzky!

Good luck! And, who knew you were a hockey fan??

  2. Laura says:

    Thanks, Janet.

Me, a hockey fan, not so much, but I do love that quote!

And… I just called!!! I thought I was going to have a heart attack as I dialed the numbers, but, luckily or not luckily, I got an answering machine. So I left a detailed message, and we’ll see!

Oh, I think the answering machine approach you lucked into just might work. Let us know what happens! Enjoyed the entry!

And here I thought it was Dyer. Who knew?!

Some of the my favorite motivational quotes have originated with great athletes and their sports coaches. Unless most of us, every move they make, every off day, every bad attitude, and every immature reaction, is on display to the whole world. Ouch! The intensity of such scrutiny requires dedication and discipline, and those are qualities that all successful people have to develop.
