Toot My Horn (revisited)

| June 11, 2010 | 2 Comments

Last year I blogged about tooting my horn. As a massage therapist who is self-employed the only way to have income is to work. Making myself known is imperative. Why is it so hard? In this missive I will try to give an update to that call to action.

I don’t need to tell anyone how hard it is to make a living in this economy. Even if you have a job with a salary, there are still tales of people losing their jobs everyday. It seems like everyone is on pins and needles. I don’t know of anyone who is not concerned about the economy. (insert your own country song here about friends in low places) The point is we are living in scary, if not desperate, times.

Unlike my parents, who survived the depression, I have never lived in dire straits. The universe has always provided for me. I am blessed, and I am thankful. But some days, I am aware that I may not always be so lucky. These are the days that you check and double check your savings, your health insurance, and your lifestyle to make sure you are doing all you need to, to stay afloat. I am not trying to be dramatic, but now more than, ever it is essential that we are aware of our finances, insurance and security.

Call to action: The current state of anxiety really is and should be thought of as “job security” for me. More folks than ever need to be investing in their health. Taking a break, healing yourself and relieving your stress through massage is more important than ever.

As far as my “tooting” goes: I am setting out to educate folks on the validity of massage in their self care. I vow to be less concerned about the severity of the economy and how tenuous finances may be and focus instead on self-care. Providing others with my massage is a great tool in their toolbox. One will help the other, of this I am certain.

  1. Wow….wonderfully said. You’re so right! “One will help the other, of this I am certain.” I like how perfectly clear you make it here that taking care of oneself–for instance, getting a Great Massage–is not fru-fru, but is indeed health-giving. And you live that well too!! well said indeed……Thank you!

  2. “Toot” away, Ms Betsey. You are right. We all need to hear it!
