The Risk of Giving (and Receiving)

I was recently made aware of a woman, Cami Walker, who was given a spiritual prescription for her rather severe Multiple Sclerosis:  to give away 29 gifts in 29 days.  I’ve looked at her website (http://www.29gifts.org/), watched a couple of You Tube videos by/about/with her (you can find them at http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=29+gifts&search_type=&aq=f), and have felt very inspired by her story and her challenge to me/us to improve the lives of others in some way, however small, by giving away something every day for 29 days.  As she explains, it can be a thing (she especially likes to give away flowers), time, money, etc., and it does not have to be big.  What she also shares is the list of gifts she has received while following this spiritual prescription of giving to others:  her MS and physical health have improved dramatically, and she has received opportunities, experiences, and other gifts she directly attributes to her following this prescription of giving to others.

I have a thought and a challenge to myself.  Tomorrow is February 1st.  I am willing to take the risk of accepting this challenge, beginning tomorrow and ending on March 1st.  I commit to giving away something every day for this time period and keeping a journal of what I’ve given (and what I’ve received).  Are you willing to take the same risk?
