Taking On a New Client

| February 25, 2010 | 10 Comments

As a successful, semi-retired health and fitness guru, I’ve decided I can take on one more client, as long as she’s not too much work, as in: undisciplined, unmotivated or a whiner. She has to be willing to listen and be approachable when it comes to altering her lifestyle in order to achieve her intention. She must eat what I tell her she can eat, and exercise as frequently as I have planned in order for her to reach her goal of a healthy, pain-free body. She must refrain from runaway negative thoughts and practice daily meditation to acquire the focus necessary to achieve her desire to walk with peace in her heart and mind. This is only the beginning…

I’m meeting my new client this morning for the first time. Synchronistically it is her birthday and I wonder if she is givng herself a gift. Let’s see, what’s her name….ah yes, here it is–Micki.

has returned to the beginning: "for in the beginner's mind the possibilites are many, whereas in the expert's mind the possibilities are few." After numerous walks of life, anywhere from that of a banker, to a non-denominational Christian minister, as well as a clown and a yoga teacher's teacher in between, she is at "square one" again. Coming along with her on this new leg of her journey are a loyal husband, two intriguing adult sons and goddess-girlfriends who remain ever supportive even though they have plenty of reasons to roll their eyes or mutter "Oh this ought to be interesting..." -- but never do -- at least not to her face!

Welcome to the beginning Micki! I got started on this path 3 years ago and it has been interesting. Prior to this adventure I was a healer, an engineer, a non-denominational Christian minister, oddly enough at the same time I was a husband & father to 2 incredibly talented boys and an extremely talented daughter.

It continues to be an incredible journey for me, remembering, relearning and learning, discovering a me that had been waiting for me. Enjoy the wonder.

  4. Ah, you got me, Micki! I’m thinking… wow, who is this amazing new client? (And, surely, I would never be a candidate, LOL). Great post!

    And… welcome aboard!

Micki, Janie told me you contacted her. Welcome to the “Risk a Day” blog. I sang in the choir at FUMC Sugar Land also but our times may not have crossed. Laura Biering is my daughter! Small world, huh?

I used to say I was so glad I “taught exercise” for a living because I wasn’t sure I would be able to motivate myself—in other words I had lots of sympathy for clients who procrastinated or were unmotivated without a trainer’s help. (Me again.) Three years ago my life changed drastically and I was no longer inspiring others to move and by association, myself. So my gift to me of a tough, take-no-prisoners trainer was long overdue!
