My abandoned child within has once again been making her presence known in the last several months. You know the type. She’s one of those whiney, jealous, tantrum-throwing, needy kids that no one wants to be around because…well, because she’s just no fun to hang out with. Lucky me-I get to be with her 24/7.

None of the usual tricks I use to distract her were working until I looked down in my bag and noticed one last one. It’s a dangerous one so I don’t perform it very often, but considering I was at my wit’s end, I decided to try it.

ABRACAPOCUS!! To my amazement, it worked. I listened to her. That was it. Well, I also told her that I loved her and that I understood why she’s felt so abandoned again lately. Other people have tried to tell her that recently, but I guess it had to be me. After sharing some tears of forgiveness, I asked her what else she wanted. Her response? “Just keep listening. It’s not that I don’t have dreams and goals. I do. Right now, I just need to feel loved, safe and heard.”

You got it, kid. Whatever it takes.

Kitty Karn risked it ALL and moved to the cornfields of West Central Illinois where she found her dream man and her dream job.
