062409 – What’ll be my risk for today? What’ll be yours?

| June 24, 2009 | 0 Comments

There are so many possibilities for risks I can take today.  Some of them probably don’t seem like risks to anyone but me.  Things like eating well and going to bed at a decent hour (and putting aside the computer and turning out the light) seem like no-brainers, but alas, for me, they are not.  As I study The Artist’s Way even more deeply (through my own group and through co-leading the Artist’s Way Summer Camp), I am reminded that not doing those things are actually blocks to my creativity. Not only do I not feel as well physically, but I also have a tendency to beat myself up about them, which distracts me from what I really want to be thinking about and doing, and doesn’t feel very good either…

There are also the more obvious risks I could take, like calling on others to help me with my book.  I am in desperate need of a cheap transcriptionist.  I even have some leads on a few, but I have yet to make the calls necessary to making a decision.  Also, there are still women in the arts that I really want to interview.  Nanci Griffith is one of them.  If she’s not a “true voice,” I don’t know who is!  And, I have a lead on who might be able to get in touch with her, but have I asked?  Well, no…

And then there is the giant tree limb in my yard, and the busted fence.  Do I ask my neighbor’s assistance with the cost of removal and repair, since it was, after all, his tree?  Or do I just buck up and handle it myself?  What is the protocol here?  Does anyone know?

And last but not least, are the risks of writing about this stuff in my blog for the world to see, and making a commitment about which risk(s) I will take today!

OK, here goes:

Today, on June 24, 2009, I will have my light out by midnight, contact my friend Alan about his friend who knows Nanci, and respond to at least one transcriptionist.  Yikes!  And, I will let you know, either tonight or tomorrow how all of that went!
